The Sure Fund was launched on August 21st, 2006 at a unit price of N1.00. In line with the approved guideline from Pencom, the funds were invested in the capital market, government securities and money market.

As at 20th of March, 23% of the fund was invested in the capital market, 42% in government securities, and 35% in money market instruments. This is inline with PENCOM maximum limits of 25%, 100% and 35% in the capital, money and government securities market. The unit price of the fund has since appreciated from its launch price of N1.00 at end of August 2006 to N1.06 as at 31st March 2007.
The fund will reflect prevailing

market conditions and will be subject to minor price fluctuations. Leveraging however on our expertise and experience, we have chosen investments including stocks from the Nigerian Stock Market which we expect will give us superior returns while providing safety of assets, which is equally key.

Till Wealth Do Us Part –
Keeping your financial balance in retirement.

What would it be like after a successful career to realize that you are unable to afford to lead the same lifestyle as you previously did? Even worse, what if it creates a crack in your relationships because you are no longer able to meet up with your commitments as before or find yourself more dependent on your spouse or family.

It is a well established fact that finances tend to cause tension in relationships. Wealth and one’s association with it alters the balance of power in any interaction. It therefore follows that for those who are acustomed to having a lot of money view the world differently.

While money may not buy happiness it does buy freedom and the bottom line is that the person with more freedom has more options.

So would your relationship with your dependants become strained upon retirement due to your inability to meet up with their financial demands? Does retirement spell doom for your family in the situation where you were the sole breadwinner during your working life? Would it then be necessary to change marital vows to reflect ‘wealth’ and not ‘death’ as the conditions of separation? Would financial worries deny you and your family deserved happiness when it matters most?

You can plan ahead by making sure that your pension contributions are sent regularly to your Retirement Savings Account by your employer. This would guarantee you a secured retirement life

Health Tips:

Recognising Stress

Recognising that you're experiencing stress - and why - is the first step to dealing effectively with it. You need to recognise it before you can start to work out good strategies for reducing stress. So what should you look out for?

Physical symptoms may alert you to the fact that you're under stress. We each express stress in different ways and sometimes symptoms are difficult to spot or blamed on another cause. The following are some of the common symptoms.

  1. Anxiety, irritation, feeling flustered, anger
  2. Feeling that a burden is hanging over you.
  3. Poor concentration , uncertainty and difficulty in making decisions
  4. Headaches, palpitaions and feeling ‘hot and bothered’
  5. Dry mouth, lump in the throat and shaky hands
  6. Problems with sleep, either unable to fall asleep, or waking too early in the morning
  7. Increased intake of caffeine, cigarette or alcohol
  8. Repetitive habit or tic, such as scratching or hair pulling
  9. Tearfulness, depression or feeling suicidal
  10. Chest pain
  11. Problems eating or swallowing
  12. Diarrhea or constipation
  13. Loss of libido
  14. Worsening of skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis or of asthma

Symptoms may be directly related to stressful events, such as an argument with your boss. After acutely stressful events like this men and women may react differently - women may be more tearful, while men are more likely to become angry, or increase their alcohol intake. But stress is very individual, and can show up in unpredictable ways, from sudden bursts of aggression to unexplained illness.

FAQ of the Month

Are all employees under the scheme entitled to employer contributions and group life Insurance?

Yes, employers under the scheme besides remitting the monthly employer contribution have a further obligation to maintain group life insurance policy in favour of every employee for a minimum of three times the annual total emolument of such employees.

Did You Know?

The National Sleep Foundation says that we feel sleepy between 2 to 4 p.m. because of a drop in body temperature.  The Foundation recommends a 15- to 20-minute nap that can restore alertness and memory and relieve stress and fatigue.  Some businesses abroad are taking the recommendation seriously because they believe that power naps raise productivity.  Their employees bring in their mats and companies provide floor space!!
